Food security ministry halts further sugar imports
The Ministry of National Food Security has decided to stop importing sugar.
Officials said the decision came after reviewing the country’s sugar reserves. There are ample sugar stocks available domestically, so further imports are unnecessary. The government has decided that no more sugar will be imported through the Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP).
The federal government’s sugar imports will be limited to existing contracts for 300,000 metric tons, for which orders have already been placed. Instructions have been issued to TCP accordingly.
