Protests continue nationwide against police attack on National Press Club
Protests against the police assault on the National Press Club Islamabad are ongoing across various parts of Pakistan.
According to details surfaced on Friday, the journalists in Mansehra, North Waziristan and Lakki Marwat hoisted black flags and held demonstrations condemning police violence. In Mansehra, on the appeal of PFUJ President Afzal Butt, journalists observed black day at the Mansehra Press Club.
The journalists labelled the incident as the “darkest day” in Pakistan’s history. In North Waziristan, journalists also denounced the attack on the National Press Club.
The District Press Club Miranshah and the Waziristan Union of Working Journalists described violence against journalists as an attack on democracy. They called on the government to ensure the safety of journalists and to take action against those responsible.
In Lakki Marwat, journalists similarly protested against police brutality. Holding black banners, they raised slogans declaring that the dignity of journalists had been violated. They demanded a transparent inquiry into the incident and the suspension of the officials involved.
