Best deal must be ensured in privatisation process: PM Shehbaz

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasised on Thursday that the best possible deal must be secured for the institutions involved in the privatisation process.

According to details surfaced, the premier chaired a review meeting regarding the proposed privatisation of government institutions. The prime minister made it clear that delays caused by institutional or administrative hurdles, as well as red tape, would not be tolerated. He directed that regular meetings be held to oversee the progress of privatisation and ensure effective monitoring of the entire process.

He further instructed that national interest and institutional capacity building must be prioritised throughout the privatisation effort. The prime minister called for the services of international experts to be engaged in order to assist with the privatisation of government entities.

Immediate measures were directed to enhance the capacity of institutions involved. The Prime Minister was briefed on the progress regarding the privatisation of 15 out of 24 institutions. He instructed that the process for institutions which are inactive or a burden on the public treasury be completed without delay.

The meeting was attended by Federal Ministers Ahad Cheema, Sardar Awais Leghari, and Minister of State Bilal Azhar Kayani.
