Govt orders action against online propaganda on cervical cancer campaign in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Health has taken serious notice of negative propaganda on social media against the national campaign for the prevention of cervical cancer. It has written a letter to the National Cybercrime Agency, demanding strict action against those spreading misinformation.

According to officials, the Health Ministry has formally requested the Cyber Crime Wing to block accounts involved in spreading lies and false narratives regarding the cervical cancer vaccination drive. The ministry has also recommended that FIRs be registered against malicious elements fueling propaganda.

Authorities warned that false information on social media is directly endangering the health of young girls. The cervical cancer prevention campaign, which includes vaccination and awareness drives, is designed to protect women’s health, but online misinformation has created unnecessary fear and confusion.

The Health Ministry clarified that those who are spreading propaganda about the vaccination campaign can be identified through digital tracking. With this capability,
