Crackdown begins as grace period ends for unlicensed motorcyclists in Islamabad
The grace period for unlicensed motorcyclists in Islamabad has ended, with 24 cases registered on the first day of enforcement.
According to federal police sources, action is under way against those riding without licences and violating traffic rules. 24 first information reports have been filed for various offences related to traffic violations.
Police have detained 532 motorcycles and 60 vehicles at local stations in connection with breaches of traffic regulations. Over 2,200 tickets have been issued.
Of these, more than 1,100 were issued to motorcyclists. Ninety riders were fined for lane violations, five for installing heavy silencers, and 426 for offences including running red lights and using non-pattern number plates.
A further 134 were penalised for missing windscreens or indicators, while 99 were underage drivers. 71 riders were fined for carrying passengers, 405 for not wearing helmets, and 34 for riding without a licence.
Additional tickets were issued for other violations.
