UN chief urges full implementation of Gaza peace agreement

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has urged both sides to fully comply with the terms of the initial phase of the Gaza peace agreement signed by Israel and Hamas.

In response to the agreement, António Guterres emphasised that all hostages must be released in a dignified manner, a permanent ceasefire must be ensured, and the war must come to a complete and final end.

Earlier, the President of the United States, Donald Trump, said that Gaza is now becoming a much safer place. He said it would be rebuilt, with support from other countries in the region. These countries, he added, possess considerable resources and are keen for the process to succeed. The United States will also support these efforts, with the aim of helping to ensure lasting peace.

EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas has welcomed the ceasefire agreement in Gaza, labeeling the first phase of the peace deal between Israel and Hamas as an important step forward and a major diplomatic success for the mediators.

She said the agreement presents a genuine opportunity to end the devastating war and secure the release of all hostages.

Kallas added that the European Union will do all it can to support the implementation of the agreement.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan welcomed the Gaza ceasefire agreement, expressing satisfaction that Turkiye played a role in efforts to end the conflict between Hamas and Israel.

He said Turkiye would fulfil its responsibilities to ensure strict implementation of the agreement.
