NASA allows astronauts to carry smartphones on ISS and Artemis II missions

NEW YORK – NASA has announced that astronauts heading to the International Space Station aboard the Crew-12 mission and those flying near the Moon on Artemis II will carry advanced smartphones into space.

The move aims to allow astronauts to capture photos and videos of key moments during their missions and share them with people on Earth.

This marks the first time astronauts will be permitted to take personal smartphones into space missions

NASA said strict safety protocols have been put in place to ensure the devices do not interfere with any critical spacecraft systems. In earlier Soyuz and Space Shuttle missions, the use of personal phones was not allowed due to technical limitations.
